One of our favorite young brands is The Old Try, a Southern-Style Print Shop located a bit north of the Mason Dixon line. The Old Try is run by Micah and Marianna Whitson, two southerners who now live all the way up in Boston. A little over a year ago, after massive tornadoes ravaged Alabama (the home state of Mr. Whitson), Micah and Marianna decided to express their heartache in the best way that they knew how, by creating.
I initially met the Whitson's via social media. Our initial contact happened when Ryan, the co-founder of Bowties & Boatshoes, followed a twitter link that Caroline Fontenot had posted and was suddenly in love. I wasn't far behind.
Instead of a more modern printing process, every 13" x 20" print that leaves the Old Try shop is hand pressed. Each has a look that is truly unique, and it's hard not to love that. While I'm the proud owner of a few of the Maryland and Florida-centric prints, Ryan has gone all out and decorated his new son Palmer's nursery with a variety of prints.
We've both become avid supporters of the Whitsons and their brand and share it with friends as often as they'll listen. Spend a couple of minutes browsing their site and you'll see why.
If you've got a second, take a moment and watch this video filmed by Phil McArdle. It's super neat.
